The Coast Guard and the cruise liner Treasure responded to a plea for help from the crippled 50-foot Serenity.

According to officials, a brand-new Disney cruise ship rescued four individuals from a catamaran taking on water in the Atlantic a week ago.

When the 50-foot Serenity asked for assistance at 8:30 a.m. November 10, it was 265 miles from Bermuda, and the Coast Guard, based in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, notified other boats in the area, according to a statement from the department.

Disney Treasure Responds to SOS Call

Before heading to the catamaran and arriving between 1 and 1:45 p.m., the Disney Treasure replied that it was 80 miles away from Serenity, according to the Coast Guard.

A family of four, aged 25-74, a married couple, their daughter, and a cousin, were stranded at sea, facing distress and difficulty in preventing water from entering, according to U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Mike Rauch.

According to authorities, Treasure deployed a lifeboat and rescued all four of the passengers from Serenity once it was near enough.

In a statement issued by Disney, Treasure skipper Marco Nogara stated, “We are pleased that the Disney Treasure was able to provide aid to the boat passengers in peril.”

“Our crew members worked together on the rescue, skillfully demonstrating their training and commitment to safety,” Nogara stated.

Notably, Serenity had a functioning bilge pump that reduced the water flow, but it was just a short-term fix.

Although the ship was able to control some flooding, Petty Officer 3rd Class Christine Bills noted they couldn't keep up with the whole scenario.

Heroic Intervention: Disney Treasure Alters Course

The freshly completed Disney Treasure was on its way from Eemshaven, Netherlands, to its eventual home in Port Canaveral, Florida, when it was suddenly called to action.

According to a Disney blog post that has been recently published, the ship was travelling “across the Atlantic Ocean... in preparation for its inaugural season this December.”

Officials claimed that Treasure will make its maiden scheduled passenger trip on December 21 after arriving in Florida. During its seven-night voyage, it will make stops in Castaway Cay, Bahamas; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; and Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

Additionally, Meyer Werft, the German constructor, indicated the $1.1 billion Treasure has 1,250 passenger rooms.

Furthermore, Rauch expressed gratitude for the cruise ship's rescue in a potentially dire situation, stating that they were grateful for the ship's change of course and the cruise staff's willingness to assist the people.

According to Rauch, the family was put on the cruise liner en route to Florida following the rescue. “So, they got a free ride back to the U.S., and on one of the best cruise ships in the world,” Rauch said. “And I'm sure they're enjoying every minute of it.”
