The Ship Safety Officer plays a central role in supporting the Master and shipboard management team in maintaining a safe and healthy working environment, promoting effective risk control, monitoring safe working practices, and encouraging a positive safety culture on board.

This Professional Certificate in Ship Safety Officer programme by LMA is aligned with the safety-management competencies of the STCW Code at management level and uses the relevant investigation principles of IMO Model Course 3.11, Safety Investigation into Marine Casualties and Marine Incidents. It also integrates the International Safety Management (ISM) Code, SOLAS safety requirements, occupational safety principles and accepted shipboard safe-working practices.
