The international maritime industry operates within a highly interconnected commercial, regulatory, financial, technological, and geopolitical environment. Shipping companies, shipowners, charterers, ports, logistics providers, financial institutions, insurers, and maritime service organisations must make decisions that balance commercial performance with safety, environmental protection, regulatory compliance, operational resilience, and long-term competitiveness. Effective maritime business management therefore requires an integrated understanding of markets, vessel employment, chartering, finance, contracts, law, insurance, risk, sustainability, digitalisation, and strategic leadership.
The Advanced International Maritime Business programme by LMA provides an advanced, integrated examination of the principal commercial and managerial functions that influence international shipping businesses. The programme progresses from the structure and economics of maritime business through commercial operations, ports and logistics, chartering, finance, contracts, law, insurance and risk management, before addressing sustainable shipping, digital transformation, emerging business models, strategy, and leadership. The course draws on relevant IMO conventions, codes, resolutions and guidance—including SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, the ISM Code and applicable maritime digitalisation and cyber-risk guidance—while maintaining its primary focus on international maritime business and management.
